Meet Dr. Ella Levy

A Powerhouse of Experience Joins Matte Asher
Dr Ella Levy

When Dr. Ella Levy steps into her new role with Shnat Sherut 50 Plus in Matte Asher this September, she joins a truly exceptional cohort of volunteers, individuals whose professional achievements and life experiences are as impressive as their commitment to service. Ella’s story is a shining example of the calibre of talent our program brings to Israel’s communities.

From Jerusalem’s Swimming Champion to International Scholar

Born and raised in Jerusalem, Ella’s early years were marked by both discipline and drive. She earned first place in Israel’s national 100- and 200-meter backstroke championships and developed a lifelong love of sports. After graduating from the Wingate Institute for Physical Education, she became a certified Physical Education teacher, swimming coach, lifeguard, and Israeli folk dance instructor. Her athletic success soon led to a running scholarship at Florida International University, where she completed her BA in Physical Education along with the CAJE requirements to teach Hebrew and Judaic studies.

Educational Leadership at the Highest Level

Ella’s passion for education led her to earn a Master’s and Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University, specializing in Organizational and Educational Leadership. Her doctoral research developed a professional development program to help teachers integrate multiple intelligences into classroom instruction. She also holds a Principal’s and Jewish Family Educator’s License and is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator.

In North America, Ella built an outstanding career in educational leadership. She directed innovative Jewish education programs, served as a board member of the Central Agency for Jewish Education in Miami, and was part of the Office of the President for the Hebrew Alliance Teachers. Her dedication earned her top national awards, including the Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for Excellence in Jewish Education and the Torah Aura Award in Curriculum and Administration. She also presented her research at Brandeis University’s NRJE conference.

Service, Community, and New Beginnings

Ella’s commitment to service extended beyond the classroom. She volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem in Florida, advocating for children in need, and led aerobic fitness classes in her community. Following the events of October 7, she felt a strong call to return to Israel. Since then, she has been volunteering with Lev Echad and preparing to dedicate her next year to Shnat Sherut 50 Plus.

A Year to Make a Difference

With a grown daughter and son, and the exciting prospect of becoming a grandmother, Ella is embracing this new chapter with energy and enthusiasm. Her arrival in Matte Asher will not be just a gain for the local community, but also a powerful reminder of the incredible expertise and dedication our Shnat Sherut 50 Plus volunteers bring to their service.
