A Steady Hand in Unsteady Times

Sarit’s Story from Nofei HaBesor
Thank you Sarit!

Arriving When It Mattered Most

When Sarit arrived at Nofei HaBesor High School, the country was still reeling from the trauma of October 7th. Schools across the region were struggling to regain a sense of normalcy. Sarit, a volunteer from Nahariya with Elul’s Shnat Sherut 50 Plus, stepped in quietly but decisively, during a time when help was needed most.

“She came during a difficult period,” recalls Batia Mirzaev, the school’s pedagogical coordinator. “There was no fanfare, no request for recognition. Just a huge heart, deep empathy, and a desire to help however she could.”

More Than Just Academic Support

From the very beginning, Sarit offered far more than assistance with lessons. She brought presence – a calm, supportive, and reliable presence that both students and staff came to depend on. With her warm smile and listening ear, she became a steady figure in the school’s daily life.

“While many were still trying to recover,” Batia adds, “Sarit was already here, encouraging the students, lifting them up, and helping to move us all forward.”

A Source of Strength for Students and Staff

Her impact was felt not only in the classroom, but in the emotional resilience she helped restore. As students prepared for their matriculation exams, Sarit’s quiet encouragement gave them confidence. Her steady involvement offered a sense of security and hope in an otherwise uncertain time.

“The impact she made wasn’t only in the learning,” Batia says. “It was in the sense of security and stability she gave to the students and to us.”

A Lasting Influence

At Shnat Sherut 50 Plus, we believe in the value of life experience and the power of giving back. Sarit exemplifies both. Her presence during such a turbulent time is a powerful reminder of what one committed volunteer can bring to an entire community.

As Batia expressed in her heartfelt note:

“The teacher is the one who affects eternity – he can never tell where his influence stops.”
Benjamin Disraeli

To Sarit, and to all of our volunteers, thank you. For your time, your care, and your belief in the future.
