Rooted in community, inspired by service
Born and raised in the moshav of Nordia, Smadar Carmon has spent her life combining a deep connection to her community with a love for movement, creativity, and hands-on contribution. A proud mother of four and grandmother to twelve, she has worked for over two decades in moshav life, from picking roses in greenhouses and grafting orange trees in the orchard, to founding and managing her own houseplant greenhouse for ten years. She also played a central role in community culture, producing Shavuot and moshav holiday celebrations and running summer camps for local children for a decade.
A career in movement and education
Smadar’s professional journey took her beyond the moshav, as she became a movement teacher in kindergartens and went on to lead early childhood movement education at the Wingate Institute and the Shieem Campus at Tel Aviv University for 20 years. She trained countless instructors, developed national curricula, and delivered advanced training to physical education teachers, kindergarten teachers, and special education professionals. She is also the author of two influential books on early childhood movement – Learning with Joy and Motion and Senses and Encounters in Movement.
Dancing through life
An accomplished contemporary and modern dancer, Smadar performs with the troupe in the show Kholot and in other artistic ensembles. Her passion for movement and creativity continues to shine both on stage and in the communities she serves.
Volunteering from the heart
In recent years, Smadar has dedicated herself fully to volunteer work, from harvesting tomatoes in Moshav Yishai in the Gaza Envelope to taking part in the “Wheat Grows Again” project, restoring gardens in Kfar Aza and Kiryat Shmona. Most recently, she has been revitalizing public spaces in Nordia and is now a member of the committee selecting a new community director.
Looking ahead to Mateh Asher
This September, Smadar will join the brand-new Shnat Sherut 50 Plus group in Mateh Asher, bringing with her a rare combination of professional expertise, artistic flair, and a lifelong commitment to community. With her energy, experience, and compassion, she is ready to make a lasting impact along Israel’s northern border.
